A day in the life...

Just a few updates in the life of the Idaho Lambsons...

Logan fell asleep at the table again last week.

He also had his fourth trip to the dentist. The first 3 times, he was really good the whole time. I knew it couldn't last. He was just not cooperating at all for the first half of his appointment. We even tried to give him laughing gas at one point, but he wouldn't let the dentist put the thing on his nose. The receptionist had to hold Lexi for me so I could hold Logan's hand down. The dentist had to threaten to send me out of the room and be mean and hold his head still. It was not fun. He ended up taking a little break to check on another patient and I got Logan up and we walked around the office a few times. During which time I bribed Logan - if he was good the rest of the time I would buy him a toy car he wanted. When the dentist came back, he decided not to use the drill and dig out the cavities the old fashioned way. That helped a lot. I think Logan really didn't like the vibration on his teeth - plus the sound of the drill is not the best sound in the world. After about 10 minutes, I see the dentist shaking Logan's shoulder lightly and saying his name...Logan did not respond. He was asleep! And he stayed asleep the rest of the time. We couldn't believe it. But, I guess if any kid can fall asleep at the dentist, it would be Logan.

I am so not a morning person. I'm okay if I wake up on my own, but I am very grumpy when woken up. So when Lexi wakes me up in the morning and I go in to get her and she's just got a huge grin, I wonder if she is my child. Today when I went in there I noticed she was eyeing her binkie. Then, lo and behold, she reached out and grabbed it and put it in her mouth! Yeah Lexi!

We got a new cheese grader and Jon used it for the first time the other day. He promptly proceeded to take a chunk out of his knuckle. Apparently it is really sharp. Duh! It bled a lot and it was not pretty to look at. Jon thinks it may have even got down to the bone. It probably could have used a stitch or two, but no way was Jon going to see a doctor. It's starting to heal nicely.

The Fourth

This year was the first year in four years that Boise has had a big fireworks display. I think it was because the company that put them on went bankrupt, or something. So, it was a big deal this year. We thought about going downtown to see the show, but it didn't even start until 10:15 (it doesn't get dark here until 10pm - isn't that crazy?) and by the time we would have gotten home it would've been after 11. Usually no big deal, but we had bought a bunch of fireworks for us to light. All of the ground ones are legal here. So, we decided to not go to the show, but instead have a boring night at home.

Then our neighbors invited us over for a barbecue, so that was nice. They have girl who just turned 4 and a baby who is about 1 month older than Lexi. There are also 3 other girls, but none of them were there. I had never met them before, and they're really nice people and we had a good time. Then we set off our fireworks together. I can't tell who had more fun, the kids or the adult men. At one point, they started looking for things to blow up, and let's just say that my headless barbie no longer exists. Here are some pictures...

Logan's faves: snakes 'n tanks

Jon made a huge plie of snakes and lit them all at once... here's the result

Here are a couple of the "bigger" ones we lit...

And, I don't know why, but this blurry one turned out to be my one of my favorite pictures...

There were also quite a few 'illegal' fireworks being set off in the sky in our neighborhood. So, all in all we had a great show and a great time with our neighbors.

A Successful Day

So, I've mentioned previously that Lexi only likes to take naps in her swing or in someone's arms. If I put her down somewhere, she's awake within 5 mintues. Well, the last few days I've been putting Lexi in her crib while she's napping to get her used to sleeping in there during the day. She's taken a few 20-30 minute naps in there. Today we had a breakthrough - she napped for over an hour. Wahoo!

Lexi also happens to be 5 months old today. So I thought it would be a good time to try feeding her cereal again. At first, she spit it out. Then she kept it in her mouth for a little while...and then spit it out. So, I got a bottle and put the bottle in her mouth right after the cereal, which got her to swallow the cereal. After a couple times of this, she ate the cereal all on her own. Of course, since she spits up all the time, she spit up the cereal an hour later. Oh well, at least I got her to eat it!
